Fate is the only one of the ten red arcana that leans defensive, which makes it the default here.

Counters & Synergies

Countered-by and synergy picks are this site's own reading, based on each hero's kit. What the official app publishes is how often heroes are picked together (see "Frequently Paired With" below); it does not publish any rating of how well they match up.

The figures are the "match rate" published by the official in-game HoK Camp: how often these heroes ended up on the same team (fetched 2026-08-14). It is not a win rate, so a higher number does not mean a stronger pairing.

Strategy Guide

Playstyle

A fisherman support who hooks one enemy and serves them to his team. Every landed hook is the starting gun of a fight, and his void-gate ultimate swallows entire groups.

Best for: Players who want the crowd's roar when the hook lands — and accept the responsibility when it doesn't.

Recommended Combos
Hook Into Lockdown
Skill 2 (Into the Void mark + pull) → Skill 3 (continuous stun on marked targets) → Skill 1 (area damage + slow)

The chain hook marks the first enemy it hits with Into the Void and pulls them to Kui. Skill 3 only stuns targets carrying that mark, and Skill 2 is his one way to place it from range. Each devour grants a 46 (Lvl 1) shield, so being surrounded does not drop him right away.

Marking at Point Blank
Skill 1 (250% damage + Into the Void on adjacent enemies) → Skill 3 (continuous stun on marked targets)

The Into the Void mark is not hook-exclusive: Skill 1 deals 250% magical damage to enemies standing right next to Kui and marks them there too. Skill 2 sits on a 13s cooldown at Lvl 1 against Skill 1's 5s. Right after a missed hook, this is what he falls back on.

These combos are not official data. They are this site's own write-up, built only from the skill data transcribed from the in-game display; nothing that the skill text does not state is included.

Strengths
  • One hook creates a numbers advantage before the fight even starts
  • Skill 3 keeps anyone marked with Into the Void in a continuous stun
  • Kills and assists permanently stack HP toward front-liner bulk
  • Deals damage around him even in death, so he's never a free kill
Weaknesses
  • No mobility skill — once caught, he usually just dies
  • Whiffing the hook leaves him nearly useless for several seconds
  • His effects center on his own body, forcing risky positioning
  • A pull without allied follow-up is just a one-way ticket
Early Game Strategy

Kui roams as an aggressive support, but the early job isn't landing hooks — it's standing where a hook is possible. Fade into the mid bushes or along the river, and the moment an enemy steps forward, drag them in with Skill 2. One connected hook becomes a first-blood setup for your team, and every kill or assist permanently grows Kui's HP. The punishment for whiffing is severe, so until level 4, only pull targets who aren't hiding behind their minion wave. The four-minute Tyrant spawn is also prime time for an ambush hook on anyone rotating in.

Mid Game Strategy

Level 4 completes the lockdown script. Skill 2's hook marks the first enemy it hits with Into the Void, and Skill 3 stuns marked targets continuously — up to 16 devours land on someone who cannot move. Before Tyrant or Overlord, a single hook from outside vision forces the enemy to start the fight a player down. Choose the target well: the enemy marksman or mid laner. Nobody on your team celebrates a hooked tank. Keep stacking kill participation and Void Devour climbs with it; 20 stacks is 3,600 extra Health, and Kui quietly ends up as durable as a front-liner.

Late Game Strategy

Late game Kui bets entire matches on one hook. During Shadow Tyrant standoffs, lurk in a bush half a step behind your front line and wait for the enemy carry's positioning mistake — patiently, for as long as it takes. When the pull lands, chain your Ultimate and Skill 1 for lockdown and damage while your team collapses on the target. The reverse is just as true: with no mobility skill, getting caught means dying on the spot. The Passive does splash damage around you when you take a massive hit or die, so even your worst moments carry a threat — but play careful, and make the one hook count.

Teamfight Strategy

The ideal teamfight starts before the teamfight: one clean pull. Yank a back-liner out of formation with Skill 2 and you open five against four. Once the brawl is live, land Skill 1 at point-blank range to spread the mark — enemies right next to Kui take 250% magical damage and are marked with Into the Void. Stack Skill 3 onto them and the mark holds them in a continuous stun through all 16 devours. Because his effects cluster around his own body, you will wade into the enemy's half of the fight, and whether you survive it depends on the Health you banked earlier. When the hook whiffs, don't linger trying to salvage it; fall back into your lines immediately.
