Summoner Spells That Fit

This role stands in lane for long stretches, so how much chip damage you can heal back decides how long you hold.

EXP
Standard Form: Li Xin's Basic Attacks and Chaos Waves grant 10 EXP upon hitting a hero.
Domination Form: Every 1% extra Attack Speed grants 0.15% physical damage reduction. Domination Energy boosts this effect by 50%-100% (scales with Domination Energy).
Revenge Form: Every 1.5 extra physical attack grants 0.1% Attack Speed. Revenge Energy boosts this effect by 50%-100% (scales with Revenge Energy).
Upon transforming from Standard Form to Domination or Revenge Form, Li Xin gains maximum Domination or Revenge Energy (up to the limit of 100). Maintaining the transformation consumes 10 of the respective Energy per second. When transforming between Forms, Li Xin loses all Energy from the current Form and gains (100 - current Energy) Energy for the new Form.

Strategy Guide

Playstyle

A fighter who alternates between the Dominance (light) and Berserk (dark) modes. Light converts attack speed into damage reduction and shortens his cooldowns for a durable, grinding style; dark converts physical attack into attack speed and opens with a knock-up field. Switching transfers energy between the two, so you are always choosing which side to lean on.

Best for: Players who want to swap between offence and defence as the fight demands, and who treat learning two full skill sets as extra options rather than extra work.

Recommended Combos
Light Awakening Loop
Skill 3 (Light Awakening: switch modes, energy to 100) → Skill 1 (Righteous Charge: 25% damage reduction while charging, plus damage equal to 12% of the target's lost Health) → enhanced Basic Attack (longer range, piercing, +50% damage) → Skill 2 (Blade Flurry: 4 sword bursts, each restoring Health) → enhanced Basic Attack

After Light Awakening, every skill cast upgrades his next Basic Attack into a longer-range piercing hit. Enhanced Basic Attacks and skill hits each cut 1s from every cooldown, which is why a swing belongs between the skills. Blade Flurry heals on each of its four bursts, so it pays off more the longer the trade runs.

Seal First, Then Gouge
Skill 4 (Dark Awakening: switch modes, energy to 100) → Skill 3 (Shadow Seal: a circle that explodes after a delay and launches enemies for 0.75s) → Skill 2 (Brutal Gouge: 25% slow for 2s at Lvl 1, and a gouge) → Basic Attack (his shadow swings as well)

Dark Awakening fills Revenge Energy to 100, and it drains 10 per second from there. Shadow Seal detonates on a delay, so plant it first and let the gouge's slow hold them inside the ring. Basic Attacks on a gouged target add damage, and against heroes they return Health too.

These combos are not official data. They are this site's own write-up, built only from the skill data transcribed from the in-game display; nothing that the skill text does not state is included.

Strengths
  • Picks Dominance or Berserk to fit whatever the draft needs
  • Dominance converts attack speed into damage reduction for brawls
  • Berserk converts attack into attack speed and drowns 1v1s in swings
  • Skill 2 sword qi clears waves from a safe distance
Weaknesses
  • Feeble before level 4; a lost lane is slow to repair
  • Each mode burns 10 energy per second and gases out in long fights
  • A form swap only grants (100 - current energy), so swapping on a full gauge wastes it
  • Skill 1 is his only mobility, so layered CC leaves no exit
Early Game Strategy

Until level 4, Li Xin is one of the last heroes in the clash lane you want brawling with. His base mode hits soft, so stick to flicking Skill 2's sword qi from range for last hits and harass, and dash out with Skill 1 the moment someone commits onto you. The Passive's base mode grants bonus EXP whenever a basic attack or Skill 2 tags a hero, so even safe poke pays out experience. Against a lane bully, conceding waves under tower is exactly the right amount of cowardice.

Mid Game Strategy

At level 4 you leave base mode behind: Skill 3 awakens Light (Dominance), Skill 4 awakens Dark (Berserk). Dominance turns bonus attack speed into physical damage reduction and holds up in a straight brawl. Berserk turns bonus physical attack into attack speed and drowns people in swings. Neither choice is locked for the match. Once awakened, Skill 4 becomes the mode swap — no cooldown, uninterruptible by crowd control, and it deals 200 damage (level 1) to nearby enemies on the switch. What carries over, though, is only (100 − your current energy), so swapping on a full gauge wastes the transfer; spend the mode you are in first. Energy drains 10 per second, so awaken right before contact instead of burning the gauge on the walk over.

Late Game Strategy

Late game, Dominance Li Xin holds the front during tower defenses and Overlord standoffs, using the damage reduction to eat the enemy's opening swing. Berserk Li Xin skips the main fight entirely, split pushing and deleting whoever peels off to stop him in a 1v1. Energy only fills to the cap of 100 when he awakens out of base mode with Skill 3 or Skill 4 — swapping between the two forms hands him just (100 − his current energy). Time the awakening to the engage call and save the swap for when the gauge is already low. Get that order wrong and you run dry mid-fight, back to something close to base-mode Li Xin.

Teamfight Strategy

In Dominance, fight half a step behind your tank, sliding Skill 2's sword qi into the crowd and deciding on every cooldown whether to chase with Skill 1 or hold it. The damage reduction is real, but you are not an actual tank — stay out of stacked CC zones. In Berserk, enter from the fight's outer edge and use your attack speed to delete an isolated backliner first. Your best window is the first fight, before the enemy has read your mode — show them steel or show them speed, and warp how they play the rest of the game.

Li XinJune 17 S15 "Grand Venture" Version Update
adjust
Li Xin — Skill Rework Passive (Shadow Blade) — new behavior • Switching from base form into Domination or Berserk form immediately grants that form's energy at maximum (100), draining 10 per second • Switching forms zeroes the previous form's energy and grants (100 − previous energy) to the new one • Gaining energy increases each form's passive effect by 50%, scaling with the energy you hold up to 100% Base Form • Skill 1 (Rapid Charge): cooldown 7s (-0.8s/lv) → 6.5s (-0.3s/lv) • Skill 2 (Assault Slash): base damage 300 (+60/lv, 100% physical attack) → 450 (+90/lv, 135% bonus AD) Berserk Form • Passive (Frenzied Blade): movement speed 30 → 20–40; shadow bonus damage 65–205 → 75–150 (+24% bonus AD) • Skill 1 (Valiant Charge): now auto-attacks enemies in range while charging, each hit dealing 50% of physical attack (two hits count as one basic attack). The attack speed bonus condition changed from "+40% for 3s after a charge under 1s" to "+35% after charging at least 1s" What this means The form-swapping design was rebuilt from the ground up. You used to build energy before switching; now switching instantly fills the bar and it drains from there, which makes the moment right after a swap unambiguously his strongest. With the passive effect scaling up to double based on remaining energy, the correct play is to funnel your damage into the seconds immediately following a form change. Base form's Skill 2 gained 50% base damage, but note that its scaling moved from physical attack to bonus AD — so it will feel weaker than the number suggests until you have items.
