PuppetRecovery
When Yango and the puppet's Basic Attacks hit an enemy hero, they have a 30% chance of granting a Hero Shard and restoring 70 (70 + 1% extra Health) Health.
Yango's Recovery skill is replaced with Hero Shards. He can stock up to 150 Hero Shards, which can be used to turn his puppet into a copy of an enemy hero. He automatically stocks 1 Hero Shard every 10-5s, depending on his level.
Hero Puppet: Consumes 50 Hero Shards to transform the puppet into a copy of the selected hero for 10s. The hero puppet possesses all of the copied hero's skills, but only deals 50% damage and takes an extra 100% damage compared to them. The hero puppet becomes stronger with Yango, dealing 1% more damage for every 15 extra Physical Attack and taking 2% less damage for every 80 extra Health.

PuppetDamageCrowd Control
Yango throws the puppet, dealing 300 (300 + 100% extra physical attack) physical damage to enemies in its path and launching them for 0.5s. He then starts controlling the puppet. The puppet's Basic Attacks deal 100% physical attack physical damage. When recalled, the puppet purifies crowd control effects from Yango and grants him 40% Movement Speed for 1s, as well as a shield that negates 420 (420 + 6% extra Health) damage.
When the puppet is destroyed, Yango is revealed and stunned for 2s. He is then unable to summon the puppet for 20-16s. If the puppet remains beyond a range of 2,500 from Yango for 5s, it is automatically destroyed.
Normal Puppet: Inherits all of Yango's equipment effects (excluding Revive, Blood Fury, Dark Curtain, and Mana Shield), inherits certain buff effects, and shares Gold and EXP with him.

Strategy Guide

Playstyle

A one-of-a-kind puppeteer who fights through his puppet while keeping his real body safe. You manage two positions at once, trading mind games with the enemy's vision.

Best for: Players who enjoy complexity for its own sake — mastery here creates an information gap most opponents can't answer.

Recommended Combos
Bind With the Puppet, Finish in Person
Skill 1 (launch the puppet, 0.5s launch) → Skill 3 in puppet form (250 slow) → recast within 3s (continuous stun) → Skill 1 in puppet form (recall) → Skill 2

A clean launch buys 0.5s of hang time. Follow with puppet-form Skill 3, then recast inside 3 seconds to reach the second phase, which stuns continuously after a brief delay. Recalling purifies crowd control from Yango and hands him 40% Movement Speed for 1s plus a 420 (Lvl 1) shield to walk in behind. If the puppet is about to die, recall early — losing it stuns him for 2s.

Swap Into Their Backline
Skill 1 (launch the puppet) → Skill 4 in puppet form (charge deeper) → Skill 2 in puppet form (swap places) → Skill 1 in puppet form (recall) → Skill 3

Within 900 units, puppet-form Skill 2 trades the puppet's position with Yango's outright. Charge the puppet past the enemy first and the swap plants him behind them. The recall itself launches anyone in its path for 0.5s, which is the window for the strings. Land both strings and the target takes an extra 13% of their lost Health.

These combos are not official data. They are this site's own write-up, built only from the skill data transcribed from the in-game display; nothing that the skill text does not state is included.

Strengths
  • The puppet leads, soaking enemy skills and attention while his body stays hidden
  • 50 shards turn the puppet into a copy of an enemy hero, borrowing their ace card for 10 seconds
  • Skill 1's knock-up plus the recall's purify and shield cover offense and defense
  • Skill 3 adds 13% of lost Health when both strings connect, and creates distance as it lands
Weaknesses
  • The puppet takes double damage, and its destruction stuns the real body for 2 seconds
  • Controlling the puppet leaves the real body exposed to a pincer
  • Extremely demanding to pilot — below mastery, you get half the hero
Early Game Strategy

Yango's opening minutes are about collecting shards and getting comfortable on the puppet. Shards accrue passively over time, but basic attacks on enemy heroes have a chance to grant extras, so roam between lanes and harass from safe range. Skill 1's puppet doubles as a bush scout, but if it's destroyed, your real body is stunned for 2 seconds and locked out of resummoning for roughly 20 — don't toss it carelessly at enemies with skills still up. Without his puppet, Yango is just a squishy melee hero.

Mid Game Strategy

Once you bank 50 shards, the Passive's hero transformation widens your playbook. The copy matches the original's kit exactly, so the standard play is borrowing an enemy with CC or a dash as your engage tool. Ganks start with Skill 1's puppet launch: the 0.5-second knock-up on hit, whittling through puppet control, then the recall — its purify and shield transfer to your body as you finish with Skill 2's hidden weapons. Keep the real body behind walls and bushes, showing the enemy only the puppet. That habit separates Yango players.

Late Game Strategy

In late-game teamfights, the puppet is the perfect decoy. Walk it into the enemy's path before the fight; when they burn skills on it, that's your cue. It takes 100% extra damage and breaks easily, so recall early when threatened and convert the purify and shield into your own engage. For the finish, chain Skill 2's four paper birds into Skill 3's strings, which pull you back out as they land. The 13% of lost Health only applies to a target hit by both strings — land one and it's chip damage, nothing more. Line up the angle before you fire, especially on a target already low. Once your real body is caught, the fight is basically lost, so check your exit before anything else.

Teamfight Strategy

The rule is simple: the real Yango doesn't fight. Send the puppet in from a flank to pressure their backline, and only move your body once you've confirmed their CC and big cooldowns have gone into the doll. The moment they spend a major skill on the puppet is the only window where you're allowed forward. Start with Skill 1's knock-up, and once a target is pinched between puppet and body — with 50 shards turning that puppet into a copy of an enemy hero — you are effectively more than two attackers. Skill 3's strings can cap a combo or buy your spacing back. When a collapse actually lands on you, the answer is Skill 4: it cleanses every crowd control effect and drops you somewhere else. Hold it for that, and remember it cannot clear the 2-second stun from a destroyed puppet.
