Gao Changgong throws a shadow dagger in the target direction, dealing 200 (200 + 90% extra physical attack) physical damage to the first enemy it hits and slowing them immensely for 2s, which diminishes over time. Dagger hits place marks on enemies for 3s. His attacks on marked targets will stun them for 1s and restore 350 (350 + 10% extra Health) Health to him. When marks disappear, the enemy takes physical damage equal to 152 (140 + 12% lost Health) (plus an extra 1% for every 50 extra physical attack). The dagger is destroyed upon hitting an enemy hero.

StealthSpeed UpEnhance
After a 1.5s delay, Gao Changgong enters stealth for 30s while gaining 15%-30% Movement Speed for 5s. Upon leaving stealth, he gains 30%-60% Attack Speed for 5s. Staying near an enemy while in stealth for over 3s will remove stealth automatically. Movement Speed and Attack Speed boosts scale with hero level.

Strategy Guide

Playstyle

A classic stealth assassin: approach unseen, mark the target, and end it in one burst. The fight is mostly decided before he becomes visible.

Best for: Players who plan three different entrances before every fight, and who prefer one decisive judgement call over flashy mechanics.

Recommended Combos
Stealth Entry Assassination
Skill 4 (stealth after 1.5s + move speed) → Skill 3 (exit stealth, charge in) → Skill 2 (heavy slow + 3s mark) → Basic Attack (marked target: 1s stun + heal) → Skill 1 (AoE slash + shadow copy)

Use stealth to get behind them, then close with Skill 3 before landing the dagger. Leaving stealth grants 30-60% Attack Speed for 5s, so the follow-up attack on the mark arrives without a gap. Miss the dagger and you lose both the stun and the heal, so only throw it from a range you can actually hit.

Mark and Disengage
Skill 2 (heavy slow + 3s mark) → Basic Attack (1s stun + heal) → Skill 1 (AoE slash + shadow copy) → Back off (the mark expires for bonus damage)

The pattern for fights you cannot commit to. The mark expires after 3s and detonates for 12% of lost Health on top of its base value (140 at Lvl 1). The shadow copy prioritizes the lowest-Health hero, so it keeps chipping away once you have pulled out.

These combos are not official data. They are this site's own write-up, built only from the skill data transcribed from the in-game display; nothing that the skill text does not state is included.

Strengths
  • Single-target burst from Skill 2's 1s stun plus a mark that detonates for 12% of lost Health
  • Passive move speed makes chases and bush ganks reliably stick
  • Healing off marked targets lets him survive aggressive dives and chain fights
  • The clone auto-targets the lowest-HP enemy hero and cleans up scraps
Weaknesses
  • Paper-thin defenses — a single CC chain usually kills him
  • Missing Skill 2 deletes the stun and percent damage, half his kit
  • No frontal fighting tools, so his impact fades in late 5v5s
  • The Ultimate is his only mobility, making exits after deep dives rough
Early Game Strategy

Start on your own buffs and rush level 4. The reason is simple: Gao Changgong's assassination kit only comes online once the Ultimate's dash links into Skill 2's follow-up stun. His Passive grants 20% bonus move speed only while moving toward enemy heroes, so approach ganks through bushes rather than down the lane. Touch the bottom side of the map at least once before the Tyrant spawns at 4:00 — showing up with a numbers advantage decides that first objective more often than the smite does.

Mid Game Strategy

Your assassination power peaks around 8-10 minutes, when two core physical and penetration items are done. Skill 2's mark lasts 3 seconds, and the moment it disappears the target takes 152 (140 + 12% lost Health) physical damage. The scaling is on health already lost, not max health, so the mark pays out more the longer you chip at them first — and every 50 extra physical attack adds another 1% on top. Re-attacking a marked enemy stuns for 1 second and heals you, which makes even greedy dives surprisingly survivable. Before the Shadow Tyrant arrives at 10:00, walk the enemy jungle bushes once to map out your ambush routes.

Late Game Strategy

Past 15 minutes, tanks get too beefy and your value in front-to-front fights drops. Hunt the enemies who leave the group instead: the side laner pushing alone, the support walking out for vision. If Skill 2 connects, the stun plus percent damage almost always converts into a kill. Deleting one enemy right before the Overlord contest is your real win condition — treat full 5v5s as a last resort and only fight with a numbers edge.

Teamfight Strategy

Never be the first one in. You are paper-thin, and a single crowd-control effect will end you, so wait until the enemy dumps their lockdown on your frontline before circling to the backline. Always open with Skill 2: a hit slows the target immensely for 2 seconds, and because that slow diminishes as it runs, the first second is when you close. Skill 3 covers the rest of the gap and sets up the 1-second stun from re-attacking the mark. Skill 1's clone automatically hunts the lowest-HP enemy hero, so in a scrum it cleans up chunked targets you can't physically reach.
