Strategy Guide

Playstyle

A fighter whose every skill cleanses crowd control — and each cleanse raises his attack. The enemy's lockdown literally becomes his damage.

Best for: Players who relish being the hero that refuses to stop, turning the opponent's favorite tool into their own power source.

Recommended Combos
Leap-Slash Gank
Skill 3 (true damage, 3s slow) → Skill 2 (200% Attack Speed, lifesteal) → Basic Attack → Skill 1 (enhanced basic that charges in)

For 5s after Skill 3 connects, every instance of damage adds true damage equal to 2% of the target's Health. The whole plan is to cram hits into that window, which is why Skill 2 has to land. Miss it and the Attack Speed, the lifesteal, and the extra recovery are all halved — the brawl swings the other way.

Turning CC Into Rage
Skill 2 (cleanses the crowd control, 200% Attack Speed) → Basic Attack → Skill 1 (enhanced basic charges to the target) → Skill 3 (adds true damage equal to 2% of max Health)

All of Dian Wei's skills cleanse crowd control, and each successful cleanse grants Mounting Rage. Hard CC is worth two stacks and soft CC one, with every stack raising his physical attack and attack range for 6s. Cleansing with Skill 2 specifically hands him the 200% Attack Speed at the same moment, so the instant after being locked down is when he hits back hardest.

These combos are not official data. They are this site's own write-up, built only from the skill data transcribed from the in-game display; nothing that the skill text does not state is included.

Strengths
  • Comeback engine — every CC cleanse grows his attack damage and range
  • Skill 2's 200% attack speed and lifesteal make him a premier brawler
  • Percent-based true damage on the Ultimate shreds even late-game tanks
  • Fast jungle clear keeps him ahead on levels
Weaknesses
  • Missing Skill 2 halves the steroid, gutting both damage and sustain
  • Few gap closers — nearly helpless against ranged kiting
  • Enemies who hold their CC deny him Rage stacks entirely
Early Game Strategy

Jungle is the standard assignment. Skill 2's 200% attack speed steroid works on monsters too, putting his clear speed near the top of the jungler class. Open on your two buffs and the riverside camps and race to level 4. Before that, only take ganks that Skill 1's 60% move speed lets you reach for free — Dian Wei doesn't truly come online until his Ultimate, so an incident-free farming start matters more than anything. One thing worth knowing: in early buff scraps, if Skill 2 connects you win most straight slugfests, so you can afford to play those confidently.

Mid Game Strategy

Once the Ultimate's leaping strike is online, you become a gank machine. For five seconds after it lands, every instance of your damage adds true damage equal to 2% of the target's max HP — half-finished armor doesn't come close to absorbing it. The fun part: enemy CC actually feeds you. Every skill in your kit cleanses crowd control, and each cleanse stacks your Passive's Rage, growing your attack damage and attack range. See their stun come in, cleanse it with a skill, and hit back harder — master that rhythm and the players trying to catch Dian Wei are the ones who fall apart. Tyrant also melts quickly solo thanks to the attack speed buff.

Late Game Strategy

Past the 10-minute mark, camp the fights that break out around Shadow Tyrant and Shadow Overlord. That 2% max-HP true damage bites deepest into late-game tanks with inflated health bars, making you one of the rare fighters who can melt the enemy frontline first. The catch: your only gap closers are Skill 1's empowered basic and the Ultimate, and getting kited at range with both down is your nightmare scenario — time your dives with allied CC. But when six Rage stacks come online mid-brawl, the rampage that follows can flip an entire fight on its own.

Teamfight Strategy

A chaotic brawl full of flying CC is exactly where Dian Wei belongs. Enter second, after your team commits, and drop the Ultimate on the squishiest target or a wounded frontliner. After landing, Skill 2 must connect — the difference between having and not having 200% attack speed plus 20% lifesteal decides every slugfest that follows. When enemy lockdown hits you, don't panic; cleanse it with a skill and convert it into Rage stacks. The only genuinely dangerous moment is when your cleanses run dry, so never stand in the middle of their team with every skill spent.
