Summoner Spells That Fit
The reasoning for each is on the summoner spells page. You may only bring one per match, and the best choice shifts with the enemy draft.
Arcana Build That Fits
A gank succeeds or fails on whether you arrive before you are seen.
This is a role-wide recommendation, not one tuned for this hero specifically.

Counters & Synergies
Countered-by and synergy picks are this site's own reading, based on each hero's kit. What the official app publishes is how often heroes are picked together (see "Frequently Paired With" below); it does not publish any rating of how well they match up.
Frequently Paired With
The figures are the "match rate" published by the official in-game HoK Camp: how often these heroes ended up on the same team (fetched 2026-08-14). It is not a win rate, so a higher number does not mean a stronger pairing.
Popular Item Builds
The order matches the in-game display. The win rate covers matches played with that build, so player skill is mixed in. Taken on 2026-08-25.

Strategy Guide
A swordsman with a charge-and-release rhythm: basic attacks build sword energy that unlocks his ultimate. Dash in, phase through the counterattack with his untargetable sword formation, and exit on the return dash.
Best for: Players who decide their way out before they go in, and who enjoy polishing a routine until it becomes lethal.
Skill 3 stays locked until Li Bai holds 4 Sword Energy, so top up on minions or monsters before committing. The defense shred and the extreme slow live on the formation's edge, not its center, so drag the target across it. Skill 3 loses up to 30% of its damage when it catches several heroes — pick someone isolated.
Each dash grants one Sword Energy and each basic attack grants another, so a single round trip reaches four stacks. That arms Skill 3 while leaving it unspent. The gap between casts cannot exceed 5s — hesitate and you lose the third cast, and the ride home with it.
These combos are not official data. They are this site's own write-up, built only from the skill data transcribed from the in-game display; nothing that the skill text does not state is included.
- •Two layers of untargetability nullify enemy retaliation
- •Skill 1's return blink makes him nearly impossible to pin down
- •Massive single-target burst off a 150 defense shred into the flurry
- •The Ultimate stays locked without four Sword Qi stacks — setup is mandatory
- •Slow early clear; falling behind before coming online is hard to fix
- •Ultimate damage decays against multiple targets, so clumped fights hurt him
- •Demanding mechanics — mismanage the return blink and he kills himself
Jungle, no debate — and early Li Bai is genuinely weak. Your Ultimate stays locked until basic attacks build four Sword Qi stacks, and your clear speed is nothing special. Concede the opening buff scrap to your team and quietly farm safe routes until level 4. Weave basic attacks between skills even while clearing to keep Sword Qi topped up — it prevents the classic beginner disaster of reaching a kill window with your Ultimate still locked. If the enemy jungler invades, don't fight; use Skill 1's third cast to blink back to your origin point and leave. Surviving this phase is the whole assignment.
From level 4 on, there's one non-negotiable pre-gank ritual: hit a nearby minion or monster until Sword Qi is full, then go in. That's the Li Bai law. The sequence is Skill 1's double dash for the stun, Skill 2 to strip 150 physical defense, then the unlocked Ultimate for the five-slash flurry. Kill secured, take Skill 1's third cast back to your entry point and the counterattack never comes. Delete the enemy mid laner or marksman two or three times before the 10-minute mark and the item lead snowballs into full map control. Until Shadow Tyrant spawns, you should always be hunting your next mark.
A five-item Li Bai is a nightmare for the enemy backline — but diving at a teamfight's opening bell is strictly forbidden. Both untargetability windows are strong, yet getting caught while enemy CC is still up means dying in one rotation. Wait in a flanking bush until two enemy lockdown skills are spent, then enter with Skill 1 and unload. Remember your Ultimate loses up to 30% damage per target when it strikes multiple heroes, so it's a scalpel for one isolated carry, not a bomb for their clumped frontline. Once the target drops, don't get greedy — take the exit.
Li Bai's teamfight is 90% waiting. Fight the itch to enter on the engage; watch until enemy stuns and hooks are burned on your teammates, then move. Enter with Skill 1's dash, drop Skill 2's 150-defense shred under their feet, and carve the priority backliner with your Ultimate — two layers of untargetability mean almost nothing touches you in between. Kill confirmed, take Skill 1's third cast out of the fight. The moment right after, with Sword Qi empty, is your only true weakness, so hit a minion to rebuild stacks before you look for round two.
