Summoner Spells That Fit
The answer to slows — the only spell unlocked at account level 1
For roles that die to a single crowd-control hit — picked after seeing the draft
The reasoning for each is on the summoner spells page. You may only bring one per match, and the best choice shifts with the enemy draft.
Arcana Build That Fits
This role stands in lane for long stretches, so how much chip damage you can heal back decides how long you hold.
This is a role-wide recommendation, not one tuned for this hero specifically.

Counters & Synergies
Countered-by and synergy picks are this site's own reading, based on each hero's kit. What the official app publishes is how often heroes are picked together (see "Frequently Paired With" below); it does not publish any rating of how well they match up.
Frequently Paired With
The figures are the "match rate" published by the official in-game HoK Camp: how often these heroes ended up on the same team (fetched 2026-08-14). It is not a win rate, so a higher number does not mean a stronger pairing.
Popular Item Builds
The order matches the in-game display. The win rate covers matches played with that build, so player skill is mixed in. Taken on 2026-08-25.

Strategy Guide
A cavalry hero whose power is his run-up: 2,000 units of movement puts him in charge state, where his skills split formations with knockbacks. A stationary Guan Yu is barely a hero at all.
Best for: Players happy to never stop moving, who look at every teamfight and ask only: where do I split it open?
Only the Charge Stance version summons cavalry on either side and knocks back everything in the path. Press it in Normal Stance and no dash comes out — you just get the 10s buff. That buff cuts the distance needed to enter Charge Stance by 75%, so a short run-up is enough to set up another empowered Basic Attack.
Charge Stance breaks the instant Movement Speed drops under 375, and the stored distance resets 0.7s later. When you get caught, leave instead of trading — Skill 2 strips every crowd control effect off him even in Normal Stance. At Lvl 1 it adds 2s of 30% Movement Speed, which doubles as the opening of your next run-up.
Even at Lvl 1 that regen returns 30 Health and Energy every half second, so top up at the edge of a brush instead of walking home. Standing still puts Movement Speed under 375, which clears Charge Stance and the stored distance alike. Heal first, then start the run and angle the charge so they land on your side of the lane.
These combos are not official data. They are this site's own write-up, built only from the skill data transcribed from the in-game display; nothing that the skill text does not state is included.
- •Charge Stance Skill 1 knocks enemies back for 10% max HP physical damage — tanks included
- •Skill 2 self-cleanses CC, making him extremely hard to pin down
- •Elite formation-breaking; he creates teamfight openings single-handedly
- •Gets stronger just by running, so his farm dependency is low
- •Standing still drops the charge state, leaving him weak in tight scrums
- •Stacked slows or chained CC stop his feet and get him focused down
- •Demands runway knowledge and heavy mechanics — a genuinely hard hero
- •Lacks solo kill power; his knockbacks need teammates to convert
Guan Yu starts in the clash lane, but after the first two waves your top priority is simple: never stop moving. His Passive enters the charge state after 2000 units of travel, so every second spent standing in a lane staring at your opponent is a second spent being weak. Loop through the river and your own jungle to build a runway, then knock enemies flying with the charged basic attack, disengage, and repeat. Until level 4, resist every urge to chase — hit, knock them back, and leave. That alone wins you lane priority.
The game becomes Guan Yu's around the 4-minute Tyrant. Objective standoffs hand you runways for free, and a single blindside knockback into their backline can decide the fight before it starts. Cast Skill 3 in Normal Stance and you are enhanced for 10s, with the distance required to enter Charge Stance reduced by 75% — 2,000 units becomes 500, so re-engages come around far faster. When ganking, angle your approach so enemies get knocked toward your tower or your teammates — punting them to safety in their own territory is the classic first mistake every new Guan Yu makes.
With two or three defense items like Overlord's Platemail and Blazing Cape done by 15 minutes, Charge Stance Skill 1 becomes your main tool. It charges forward, knocks enemies back for 10% of their max HP as physical damage, and adds the slash at the end of the charge on top. Being a percentage, it bites hardest on whoever stacked health. Your enhanced basic attack is flat, not percentage — an extra 500 (1,000 at level 15) plus 125% extra physical attack — so items are what scale it. At Shadow Tyrant and Overlord, your job is to crash sideways into the brush they're holding, wedge yourself between the boss pit and their team, and split their formation. You lack solo kill power, so leave knocked-back targets to your teammates and immediately start building the next runway. While an enemy with strong slows is alive, take the long way around and come from behind — never the front.
Your teamfight prep starts 30 seconds early: run the perimeter and keep the charge state alive. The ideal entry clips their marksman and mage in a single line, and once you've run someone over, do not stop — Skill 2 cleanses crowd control and re-accelerates you for a second and third pass. Planting your feet in the middle of the scrum is the worst thing you can do. Keep making passes back and forth through their team, and the enemy never reforms their line while your own backline shoots for free.
